A sad day for humor

Daily Giz Wiz host Dick DeBartolo, who has written for MAD Magazine for four decades, reported on his Twitter that MAD is becoming a quarterly publication after many years as a monthly magazine. A sad day for humor. By the way, Dick also guides the hand of Alfred E. Neuman on Twitter. Here's a recent tour of the MAD offices with CNN's fantastic Jeanne Moos, followed by my own tour of the same offices given by Dick last summer. My favorite part was when Dick said "Here's a photo of our founder Bill Gaines, who's no longer with us. Well, he's still in his office, but he's dead." That was so funny it made me cut myself shaving while laughing about it the next day.

When I first heard the news, I was shocked. Immediately, I though "Oh, no! What will happen to Dick De?" Luckily, Dick confirmed he was still going to write in each issue, but only 4 times per year. Like Leo said, it is the end of an era. I wish Gaines were still alive, he knew what was best for MAD, Time-Warner only cares about profit.
